Germany: Changes for Foreign Nationals Enrolled in Vocational Training Programs

Overview  

The government of Germany announced plans to issue residence permits to foreign nationals who would be otherwise required to leave Germany from 1 March 2024 so long as they are enrolled in vocational training. These measures are a part of the country’s new Skilled Immigration Act that was originally introduced in June 2023.  

What are the Changes?  

Beginning 1 March 2024, Germany will grant residence permits to foreign nationals enrolled in a vocational training program. According to the government, these measures make it easier for skilled workers from non-European countries to come to Germany.
