Botswana: Dual Citizenship Allowed

  • Botswana relaxed its citizenship laws to allow Botswanan nationals to obtain dual citizenship status and more 

Overview  

The government of Botswana loosened its citizenship laws to better accommodate Botswana nationals. 

 As a result, the government will no longer revoke citizenship status for: 

  • Botswanan nationals are married to citizens of another country who intend to acquire the citizenship of their spouses.  
  • No longer require Botswana nationals holding citizenship status in another country to renounce their status at the age of 21. In other words, the government will permit dual citizenship status.
