Overview
The government has released the Bahamas Extended Access Travel Stay (BEATS) permit allowing professional workers and students to work or study remotely from the Bahamas. The permit may be extended up to three years.
What are the Changes?
The BEATS permit is a new permit that allows legal remote work and study options for certain individuals. Provided they meet the permit’s qualifying criteria, working professionals and students may work or study in the country for up to 12 months with the possibility of an extension.
What Should Employers and Applicants Know?
Professionals who want to work in the Bahamas should submit either a letter from their employer verifying their employment or proof of self-employment. Students must demonstrate evidence of financial support for the duration of their stay. They must also verify that they are enrolled in an accredited learning institution.
Workers and students should note that the BEATS permit does not permit gainful employment in the country.
Looking Ahead
Workers and students may apply for the permit online through the Bahamas Immigration Office. The average processing time is five days.
