Overview  

The United Kingdom (UK) government introduced new restrictions on student visa routes. Under these restrictions, the government aims to cut the net migration number and limit the number of family members that international post-graduates are permitted to bring to the country.  

The UK will introduce further restrictions for overseas students intending to switch from a student visa route to a long-term work visa route. The government will also review the required funds for students and dependents entering the country. These measures will take effect at the start of January 2024.

The UK government intends to reduce student migration numbers and visas beginning in 2024. According to the government, these measures aim to ensure that the country continues to attract primarily highly skilled foreign talent.
