Key Points
- The government of the United Kingdom introduced a new document containing updated information and clarifications on several work permit pathways in the country.
Overview
The government of the United Kingdom (UK) introduced a new document containing updated information and clarifications on several work permit pathways in the country. Some of these changes include the following:
Skilled Worker
- The salary threshold will increase to £38,700 (or 15.88 per hour) OR the Going Rate for the Occupation Code, whichever is higher.
- The occupation code will change from SOC 2010 to SOC 2020.
- Occupation Salary (“Going Rate”) – median level from ASHE 2023 data (formerly used ASHE 2021 data).
- The New Entrant Rate will remain at 70% of the Going Rate (or 80% if the minimum salary threshold) but effectively increases to a minimum of £30.960 per annum.
Health and Care Workers
- The salary threshold will be shielded from the full increase but will still face a small increase to £29,000 (instead of £26,200). The latest 25% percentile of the ASHE 2023 salary rate applies.
Immigration Salary List
- The immigration salary list will replace the Shortage Occupation List which includes a 20% discount to the General Salary threshold of £38,700 (for standard Skilled Workers) or £29,000 (for Health and Care Workers).
- The general salary threshold in this instance will be £30,960 or £29,000.
Senior or Specialist Worker
- The salary threshold will increase to £48,500 (from £45,800) or £11.90 per hour OR the Going Rate of the Occupation Code (whichever is higher).
- Occupation Going Rate remains at the 25 percentile of the rate rather than the median rate adopted under the Skilled Worker Route. There is still an effective increase in salary threshold, but not as steep as the Skilled Worker’s salary.
Graduate Trainee
- The basic salary threshold is to increase to £25,410 or SOC per Table 2.
Scale Up
- The salary will increase to £36,300.
Family Migration
- 11 April Change – new minimum salary to £29,000 instead of £18,600. The old rules will protect those en route before 11 April. Flat rate increase with no additional threshold, i.e., previously needed to add £3,800 per child, etc.
