Sweden: Work Permit Salary Requirements to Increase

Overview  

The government of Sweden will increase the minimum salary requirements for work permit holders on 1 October 2023. Once these measures enter into force, foreign national employees must receive a salary that amounts to at least 80% of the median salary in Sweden. This would increase the minimum salary requirement from around 13,000 SEK per month to 26,560 SEK per month.  

What are the Changes?  

The government of Sweden will significantly increase minimum salary requirements for work permit holders beginning 1 October 2023. According to the government announcement, these measures aim to prioritize the employment of Swedish nationals to reduce unemployment rates in the country. The government also stated that these changes would help to attract higher skilled foreign national workers.
