Immigration Changes
The government of Slovakia introduced new immigration legislation on 15 July 2024. The legislation includes the following changes:
- Employers must electronically submit a “Request for Confirmation on the Possibility to Fill a Vacancy.”
- Foreign nationals can start working once a complete application is submitted, with processing times shortened from 90 to 60 days.
- Blue Cards will be valid for five years, with new salary and educational requirements.
- Long-Term Residence Permit applicants must prove Slovak language knowledge at level A2 starting 15 July 2025.
- Various permits now require bank account statements for the last three months.
- Certain applications for a change of purpose will only be possible through Slovak embassies abroad.
