Russia: Visa Formalities Waived for the Dominican Republic; New Work Permit Regulations Issued

The Russian government has announced an agreement with the Government of the Dominican Republic to waive visa formalities.

What are the Changes?

Visa-free travel is now permitted between the two countries for up to 60 days in a 180-day period, starting from the date of entry. Individuals who intend to stay longer than 60 days per 180-day period to perform work or commercial activities must apply for a visa.

Additionally, the Russian government has announced new regulations for work permits and invitation letters. On December 2, 2020, the government published new Administrative Regulations of the Internal Affairs Ministry of Russia. The regulations introduced new application forms for invitation letters to be used by organizations and foreign citizens. Additionally, the government published a new Order of the Internal Affairs Ministry of Russia. The order introduces new application forms for first-time and renewal work permits. New application forms will also be used for amending work permits and issuing duplicate work permits. Both changes take effect in 2021.

What Should Employers and Applicants Know?

The new application forms will be used starting on January 1, 2021.
