Overview
The government of New Zealand will introduce measures to allow a 90-day trial period for employers hiring people under the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) beginning 29 October 2023. This measure encourages accredited employers to treat migrants fairly and only recruit someone when they have a genuine labor need or skills gap to fill.
Employers utilizing the 90-day trial period should not include information on the 90-day trial period in the employment agreement.
From 27 November 2023, the government will require accredited employers who are labor hire (triangular) employment firms that place migrants in specific construction occupations to have at least 35% of their labor hire workforce made up of New Zealand citizens and residents in full-time employment. This is an increase from the current threshold of 15%.
