Luxembourg: Biometric Residence Permit Cards to Replace Other Card Types

Overview  

The government of Luxembourg announced that residence cards and permanent residence cards issued as printed forms to third-country nationals and family members of European Union citizens will expire on 3 August 2023. Foreign nationals who have not updated their residence permit cards must obtain a new biometric card by this deadline. 

What are the Changes?  

Luxembourg will require all holders of residence permit cards to update cards to contain biometric data by 3 August 2023. According to the government of Luxembourg, these measures will align the country’s residence card policy with the requirements of the European Union.
