Overview

Employers may submit comments on the Critical Skills Occupations List and the Ineligible List of Occupations for Employment Permits through December 11, 2020.

Background

The Critical Skills Occupations List contains occupations that qualify for the Critical Skills Employment Permit. This permit provides certain advantages for employers, including providing exemptions from labor market testing.

The Ineligible List of Occupations for Employment Permits notes occupations that foreign nationals from non-EU/EEA regions and Swiss nationals cannot apply for when seeking a sponsorship-based Employment Permit.

What Should Employers and Applicants Know?

Employers should submit their comments online using a form available on the Irish government’s website.

Looking Ahead

After the comment and review period, the Irish government may add more eligible occupations to the General Employment Categories and Critical Skills Employment Permit, which would provide more job and hiring opportunities for employers and employees.
