Germany: New Biometric Passport for Children under 24

Overview  

The government of Germany will introduce a new process for replacing all passports held by German citizens under the age of 24 with biometric passports. A biometric passport includes a digital chip and biometric data. The biometric passport also holds a validity period of six years. Previously issued passports will remain valid and usable until their expiration date.  

What are the Changes?  

The government of Germany announced the introduction of a new biometric passport type for German citizens under the age of 24. According to the government announcement, the biometric passport creates easier entry conditions for German nationals traveling to certain countries.
