France: New Digital Tool for Residence Permit Renewal

Last Updated on June 21, 2024

Key Points

  • France launched a new tool aimed at tracking the timeline of various permit types

Overview

The government of France introduced a digital tool to prevent lapses in residence permit coverage. This change is part of the PERSée Foreign Services Reform Programme. Foreign nationals with permits issued via the “Administration Numérique des Étrangers en France” (ANEF) will receive email and SMS alerts about impending permit expirations, reminding them of renewal deadlines.

Foreign nationals must renew their residence permits no earlier than four months and no later than two months before expiration. Late renewals will incur a EUR 180 fee. The new system sends notifications four months and two months plus one week before the permit expires.
