Finland: Finnish Immigration Service to Oversee Employment Permits

Key Points

  • Starting 1 January 2025, the Finnish Immigration Service will fully take over processing residence permits for employed persons from the TE Office

Streamlining Employment Permit Processing in Finland

Effective 1 January 2025, the Finnish Immigration Service will take over full responsibility for processing residence permits for employed persons previously managed by the TE Office. This change is part of a reform transferring employment services to municipal areas. The Finnish Immigration Service will handle the entire process, including employment terms, employer obligations, and labor market testing, enhancing efficiency and the customer experience.

Employers must report the hiring of foreign nationals, except for EU citizens and their families, through the Enter Finland service. This transition may temporarily slow application processing at the start of 2025 but aims to streamline and centralize the process under one authority.
