Overview
The government of Canada officially signed a new Canada-United Kingdom (UK) Youth Mobility Arrangement on 14 July 2023. Under the arrangement, Canadian and British youth will benefit from reciprocal work opportunities in each country.
Canada will roll out the arrangement under the International Experience Canada (IEC) pathway, while the UK will roll out the pathway under its Youth Mobility Scheme.
The government will introduce the following measures:
- The eligibility age will expand from 18 to 30 to 18 to 35.
- Two new streams—International Co-op (Internship) and Young Professionals—will be added to complement the existing Working Holiday category for UK nationals visiting Canada.
- The total period that participants will be able to stay will increase from 2 to 3 years.
What are the Changes?
The government of Canada will open a youth mobility pathway in collaboration with the government of the UK. According to the government of Canada, this arrangement will provide work and travel opportunities to UK nationals.
Looking Ahead
The arrangement is anticipated to enter into force by early 2024.
