Overview

To give skilled foreign workers the opportunity to continue living and working in the country, the Canadian government has invited 27,300 workers to apply for permanent residency.

What are the Changes?

The new option for permanent residency is an initiative undertaken by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to give foreign workers the option of staying longer in Canada, which in turn will aid its economic recovery.

Who is Affected?

The invitation for permanent residency is extended to workers in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) in the Express Entry pool.

What are the Requirements?

Candidates must have at least one year of experience working in Canada, demonstrate a positive contribution to the country’s economy, and show that they have paid taxes.

What Should Employers and Applicants Know?

Individuals who are invited to apply have 90 days to complete and submit their application.

Looking Ahead

Current travel restrictions remain in effect for permanent resident applicants who received approval after March 18, 2020. Applications will continue to be reviewed by IRCC, and applicants abroad will be allowed to enter Canada when permitted.
