Canada: Support Measures for Israeli and Palestinian Nationals

Key Points

  • Canada introduced temporary immigration measures that aim to support Canadian family members and permanent residents who are from Israel or Palestine

Overview

The government of Canada introduced temporary immigration measures that aim to support Canadian family members and permanent residents who are from Israel or Palestine. As a result, the government will waive processing fees for study and open work permit applications submitted by immediate family members of citizens and permanent residents of Canada. Qualified applicants must have left Israel or Palestine on or after 7 October 2023 and are currently temporary residents in Canada who feel unsafe returning home.

Canada will also prioritize processing all existing and new permanent residence applications for Palestinians within family-based streams. Individuals who can exit Gaza are required to complete all admissibility and eligibility requirements before they can be approved to come to Canada.

More details about these special measures for extended family members of Canadians, including how to apply, will be available soon.
