Canada: Post Graduation Work Permit Eligibility Requirements

Key Points

  • Canada will introduce new eligibility criteria and rules for the granting of post-graduation work permits

Overview

The government of Canada will introduce changes to the eligibility criteria for post-graduation work permit programs. The changes are as follows:

  • Beginning 1 September 2024, all international students who begin a study program as part of a curriculum licensing arrangement will no longer be eligible for a post-graduate work permit after graduating.
  • Graduates in master’s programs and other short graduate-level programs will be eligible to apply for a three-year work permit upon completing their degree.
    • Currently, the length of a postgraduation work permit is based solely on the length of an individual’s study program.
