Canada: Extension of Stay Permissions for Nationals of Turkey and Syria

Key Points

  • Canada extended support measures for Turkish and Syrian nationals with temporary resident permits

Overview

The government of Canada extended measures that support Turkish and Syrian temporary resident permits in Canada. As a result, nationals from these countries can remain in Canada until 3 January 2024.

Turkish and Syrian nationals will then be permitted to study, work and visit family members in Canada so long as they have applied for an extension of stay. Measures also support Canadian citizens and permanent residents from Türkiye and Syria affected by the earthquakes to help them return home to Canada.

Under these conditions, nationals of these countries are able to move between temporary streams and benefit from open work permit permissions.

What are the Changes?

The Canadian government extended measures temporarily supporting measures for Turkish and Syrian nationals impacted by natural disasters in the two countries.
