Canada: Additional Support Measures for Iranian Nationals

Overview  

The government of Canada introduced new measures aimed at supporting Iranian temporary residence in Canada and Canadian nationals in Iran. Beginning 1 March 2023, the government will introduce the following measures: 

  • Waiving certain processing fees for Iranian nationals seeking to extend their stay in Canada; 
  • Waiving passport and permanent residence travel document fees for citizens and permanent residents of Canada in Iran who wish to leave; 
  • Reducing requirements for Iranian nationals seeking to extend temporary status in Canada and simplifying steps for transitioning between temporary streams to allow Iranian nationals to study, work, and visit family in Canada. 

The government will continue to maintain these measures until 28 February 2024.  

What are the Changes?  

The Canadian government has implemented measures starting 1 March 2023 to aid Iranian temporary residence in Canada and Canadian nationals in Iran. These measures include waiving processing fees for Iranian nationals extending their stay in Canada and simplifying steps for Iranian nationals to transition between temporary streams.
