Overview

The government of Canada opened the 2024 season International Canada (IEC) program to applicants on 11 December 2023. The program will allow nearly 90,000 foreign national students from IEC partner countries and territories to come to Canada. IEC programs are reciprocal work pathways that allow Canadian and international youth aged 18-35 to enter participating countries for a temporary period.

Over the coming year, the Canadian government will continue automating application aspects to provide streamlined processing. In addition, the country introduced new programs with:

  • The United Kingdom: Expanded to permit a maximum stay of 36 months for select applicants who first participated in the program for 12 months prior to 2015.
  • South Korea: Adding the Young Professionals and International Co-op (internship) categories.
  • Chile: Under the International Co-op (internship category), applicants must be registered at a school in Chile at the time of application.
