6 March 2024 Update: The government of Bermuda will introduce a new closed and restricted job categories list on 1 March 2024. The new list will remain effective until the end of August 2024. The list now includes 46 closed job categories and 11 restricted job categories. The government of Bermuda maintains the Restricted and Closed Job Categories lists to ensure that Bermudan citizens have access to more local jobs throughout the country.

The government of Bermuda introduced a new closed and restricted job categories list on 1 June 2023. The new list will remain effective until the end of August 2023. The list now includes 46 closed job categories and 11 restricted job categories. The government of Bermuda maintains the Restricted and Closed Job Categories lists to try to ensure that Bermudan citizens have access to more local jobs throughout the country.

4 January 2023 Update: The government of Bermuda updated the Restricted and Closed Job Categories list on 1 January 2023. The list will remain valid until 31 May 2023. The list now includes 46 closed job categories and 11 restricted job categories. The government of Bermuda maintains the Restricted and Closed Job Categories lists to try to ensure that Bermudan citizens have access to more local jobs throughout the country.


27 July 2022 Update: The government of Bermuda extended the Restricted and Closed Job Categories list on 25 July 2022 until 31 December 2022. Currently, the list contains 44 closed job categories and 12 restricted job categories. The government of Bermuda maintains the Restricted and Closed Job Categories lists to ensure that Bermudan citizens have access to more local jobs throughout the country.

Overview

The government of Bermuda will extend current restrictions on new work permits issued for closed job categories until Jan. 31, 2022. Click here for the new list of closed job categories. Partners of Bermudian citizens, Permanent Resident Certificate holders, non-Bermudians on a work permit or other legal residents of Bermuda can live in Bermuda, but can not seek employment for a job listed on the closed job list.

What are the Changes? 

The government of Bermuda had originally created the closed and restricted job category lists to ensure that Bermuda citizens had access to more local jobs throughout the pandemic. This is one of several extensions to the ban.
