David Orfao Envoy Board of Directors

David Orfao

Board Member

David Orfao is a venture partner at General Catalyst, a venture capital firm with offices in Boston, New York and Silicon Valley and approximately $3.75 billion under management.

David has spent his entire career working with great founders. Early on, his focus was scaling revenue for early-stage software companies. As those companies grew and went public, he rose with them to lead sales or the entire company. His career includes technology leaders such as Lotus Development, Ashton-Tate, Frame Technology, Claris, and SQA.

The culmination was leading Allaire Corporation, which created Cold Fusion, the app server that launched the client-server web apps era. The company was small when David became CEO, but together with the Allaire brothers and team, they took it past $100 million in revenue in just a few years, and ultimately to a public offering and eventual merger into Macromedia/Adobe.

At General Catalyst, David works with great product founders who are looking for a trustworthy partner to help them scale up revenue, become strong operators, and build a high-growth company in the software, SaaS, application, information analytics, or security space. He is directly involved with Circle Financial, Clearsky, Envoy Global, Oceans Healthcare, OGSystems and Rstudio. He’s also on the board of Brightcove (a former General Catalyst portfolio company).

David is a graduate of Norwich University, earning a B.A. in Business and Accounting.
