- Japan will mandate TB screening certificates for certain visa applicants, effective 1 April 2025
Overview
Japan announced that a Tuberculosis (TB) screening certificate will be mandatory for specific visa applications starting 1 April 2025. This includes mid- to long-term visas, except for Specified Skilled Worker visas, government-funded exchange programs, and healthcare-related visas under the Economic Partnership Agreement. The requirement also applies to Digital Nomad visas. Applicants must undergo a chest X-ray at an approved medical institution in designated countries and submit the TB certificate with their Certificate of Employment (COE) application. The certificate is valid for 180 days.
