Green Card PERM Filings Increased 11% in FY 2016

December 2, 2016 Patty Johnson-Vazquez

According to statistics recently released by the Department of Labor, a growing number of employers are sponsoring green card applicants. The data shows that in fiscal year 2016, 97,504 PERM labor certifications were filed, an 11 percent increase from the previous year.

This news comes on the heels of a strong November 2016 jobs report, which revealed a 4.6 percent unemployment rate and 178,000 additional jobs created.

“The jobs report is the latest employment index signaling a skills gap that feels increasingly like a canyon — posing a serious threat to U.S. business due to missed growth opportunities, investment lost to organizations in more STEM-capable countries abroad, stifled research and development, and suffering company profits,” says Jamie Gilpin, chief marketing officer at Envoy.

“While working to close the skills gap may seem daunting, businesses must start thinking strategically about balancing long-term investment in training current and future workforces with identifying workers around the world who have these skills today,” Gilpin continued.
