Last week, over 200 C-Level IT executives gathered together to celebrate the importance of mentoring and the positive effects IT leaders have in developing future IT and community leaders at the annual Capitalize on Illinois Conference hosted by i.c.stars. This year’s Capitalize Illinois conference focused on the impact immigration has on global workforces, businesses and overall company culture. Envoy CEO, Dick Burke, was part of a panel which focused on the current state of immigration and how to effectively manage workforces across borders.
Speaking alongside two other panelists, Burke said, “Envoy recently released a report which provides a host of great takeaways, but there are four statistics which struck me as most relevant as related to today: one, 91 percent said hiring foreign nationals is key to their overall hiring strategy; two, there’s a dramatic increase in the expectation around the utilization of foreign workers; three, there’s a desire for more speed in immigration – process the cases more quickly, reduce the wait times primarily for Indian and Chinese nationals seeking green cards; and finally, close to 30 percent of employers say they are delaying projects or sending projects overseas due to the complex nature of the U.S. immigration system.”
In addition to what these statistics highlight, Burke also mentioned that compliance is an area that the U.S. government is particularly focused on and that employers need to understand the importance of staying compliant. With increased site visits from the USCIS and more scrutiny occurring during the visa application process, employers must consider improving internal processes to mitigate risk, as well as to ensure employees are kept safe.
Burke stated that according to employers, the biggest challenges surrounding compliance are differing regulations in each destination country and maintaining accurate records. As more and more companies look to compete on a global scale, having a trusted partner and/or immigration provider is key, Burke said.
